• President’s Message – October 2017

Hello ASHRAE Manitoba Members and Interested Guests,

Another year is already in full swing and it has been a busy start. So busy in fact that we are three months into the new year and I am just introducing myself to the membership online.

I am Gavin Stewart and am very excited to be serving as President of the ASHRAE Manitoba Chapter this year.

We have had some great meetings already and have many more interesting topics coming up. Our year kicked-off with a fish fry in St. Vital park. It was a cool and blustery day but we managed to stay warm enough to enjoy a great meal. We continued on into our regular programming with a tour at STTC (Skilled Trades and Technology Centre) at the Red River College Campus. The building is under construction so it allowed a unique perspective into the mechanical systems involved.

October came around and our year continued with three great events. We had our dinner meeting with Mike Ferley from the U of M, presenting the energy improvements which have been made at the U of M to reduce total energy consumption on campus. Following our dinner meeting, ASHRAE Manitoba was able to make a presentation at the Boma Manitoba Expo on retrofitting existing and historic buildings to be energy efficient. The presentation was very well attended and relevant to many of the attendees. Young Engineers in ASHRAE started their first event of the year with a tour followed by some networking at Brazen Hall, one of the new micro breweries in the City.

November continues to be a busy month for ASHRAE Manitoba with a Distinguished Lecture Presentation by Terry Townsend on “Sustainable Applications That Work”. We are always excited when a DL is able to present to our membership.

ASHRAE Manitoba 2017/2018 is shaping up to be a busy but exciting year both at the board level and for the membership.

I hope to see you all at the upcoming events.

    Gavin Stewart
