Summary

This month’s tour is of two different projects at Polo Park Mall. The system within the mall is a heat pump system. The system itself consists of water to air heat pumps in the majority of tenant spaces with a main central loop with some tertiary loops reaching expanded tenant spaces as the building has changed throughout the years. The building changed to heat pumps around 2000 and has been upgraded as needed. The main pumping system was upgraded to a trio of parallel pumps with VFD’s for energy efficiency, under partnership with Efficiency Manitoba for utility rebates. SMS will take us through the mechanical spaces where the pumps were located and discuss how the system operates and the challenges that occurred. Additionally, SMS completed redesign work for the Sears building redevelopment, which added a standalone boiler tower heat pump plant for servicing the landlord and tenant WSHPs, as well as high efficiency ERVs for space ventilation.
