The early tour time is sold out but we still have room for the second tour and you are also welcome to the dinner.

This year’s first dinner meeting is coming quickly. We begin the year on September 25th with a tour. We will be touring the Active Living Centre at the University of Manitoba. Dinner, which will follow the tour, will be a little taste of Manitoba. We will be doing a fish fry at St. Vital Park. The night will also be Membership Promotion night. Space is limited for the tour (only spots for 40 people), so sign up right away. The fish fry will be open to anyone, no charge. This is a one time event, so if you are interested in seeing what ASHRAE is about and meet some of your peers in nice and relaxing way while enjoying a great meal then come on down.

RSVP for the tour and fish fry is required. Further details will be giving in regards to parking and meeting location once confirmed.

The Active Living Centre (ALC) at the University of Manitoba is a facility for the promotion and study of active living. Prominently located at the intersection of two major thoroughfares on campus, the building serves as a gateway to the University through which students, staff and the greater Winnipeg community will first engage the campus and interface with the benefits of active living.

Despite being directly connected to the Frank Kennedy Centre and expanding on existing spaces and functions, the building addition provides a distinct contrast to the existing inward looking facility with its fully glazed façade and light filled interior spaces. The concept for the addition was to create an extroverted and communicative building that emphasizes physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being by connecting spaces and individuals to activities and nature.

Starting from the basic premise that healthy living promotes an active rather than sedentary lifestyle, the interior spaces are dynamically organized with views to promote movement. Natural light is everywhere; vistas allow visitors to see people exercising and socializing; and members are given views of nature and the campus.

As a result of its prominent location on the campus and its careful planning, the Active Living Centre has the potential to become an important icon for the University of Manitoba.

Dinner:
Time: 5:00 pm
